Berliner Delikatessen
In order to be efficient in Kapitel Zwei German class, you need a full belly. Good thing Berlin is renowned for its cheap quality street food. Quality means that I won’t speak about this Currywurst that you can find on the street or worse at Alexanderplatz. Sorry, but it’s just fries swimming in ketchup and so called “meat”. Here is my “ultimate-personal-secret-not-so-secret-cheap-street-food-place-list”:
Kebab. Kebab is love. Kebab is life. Fun fact:
The Kebab was invented in Berlin. We have the best kebabs in the world. There are different kind of kebabs:
• Gemüsekebab: With fried vegetables along with meat, some cheese and soya sauce. The most famous of all kebab is a Gemüsekebab. “Mustafa’s Gemüsekebab” at Mehringdamm is said to be the best place to purchase such culinary brilliance. But as you probably heard, you’ll probably have to be in a one hour queue to enjoy it. No problem, at Warschauer Straße they basically do the same, at “Mustafa Demir’s”. You can also try Kottiwood at Kottbusser Tor.
• Sudanesischer Kebab: This Kebab is vegetarian. It is made with fried chickpeas and is even more delicious when paired with peanut sauce. There are various places to purchase the Sudanesischer Kebab, but the best in my opinion is “Nil Kebab” in Friedrichshain. You can also find a Sudanese at Wienerstraße 68 at Görlitzer Bahnhof. I urge you to go and enjoy, if you are eager for something delicious and different from the usual kebab experience.
• Classic kebab: Oldies, but goodies. There are a lot of really good Kebab with real lamb meat (not the thing that look like meat, but it’s clearly not). Here are the places you have to try, if you want to be considered a Kebab expert: Hasir Kebab at Kottbusser Tor, Doyum at Kottbusser Tor, Tadim at Kottbusser Tor, Imren Grill at Rathaus Neukölln.
Burger is also love and also life. Berlin is one of the cities where eating a good burger is cheaper than going to McDonalds, so you have to consider yourself lucky! Here are my three top burger spots:
• Burgeramt at Boxhagener Platz: Classic, efficient and cheap. What else do you need?
• Berlin Burger International: They serve huge burgers in lots of different styles. They also change the menu from time to time. This spot is amazing but you need to go, when it’s warm outside! There are only 4 places to eat inside.
• The classic: Burgermeister has the best price and quality in one.
• The best: Tommi’s Burger joint is a bit more expensive than the others, but it’s the best quality. So if you want the best burger in Berlin you need go!
Pizza is also a thing in Berlin.
I’m not a huge fan, but if my stomach is calling for pizza, then I run to one of those 2 places:
• Il Casolare at Admiralbrücke.
• Ristorante Masaniello at Hasenheide.
