Coming to Germany and learn to live a new life

When I was a little girl, I was full of dreams. When you are in high school in Turkey, the families start thinking about your future: Which job fits you better, which job gives you money for a living and what makes you happy of course.

I was a successful student all my life. So, at the end of high school, a big and scary university exam is waiting for you. Every student has that stress and it is a truly nightmare in that year. I finished the high school, came into the last year of graduation and got the university exam. At the end, you have a degree and with that you are choosing the university and the department you would like to go. It’s pretty similar to the German school system.

I had the chance to be a pharmacist with this last degree and in the end, I really became a pharmacist after a 5 years of a long university adventure. But the thing is that my actual dream was to study genetics. But my good friends and environment told me the following: If I would have studied it, I wouldn’t have been able to find a good job and earn enough money to live a comfortable life. Would I ever reach this life which I told you above? I tricked everybody, became a pharmacist and thought that I would start a master in genetics or a related subject.

For that I did many internships in pharmaceutical companies, went to the UK for a short time project and at the end found myself in Germany to live the life I planned for myself. Now I am here looking for a PhD to go up the stairs into my dreams. I started doing that by learning the own language of this country. As well as the culture as everything begins with the communication. Always remember to follow your dreams and try to find your way, even if it becomes difficult sometimes.
