Boating on the Spree
Trip to the water with your German language school in Berlin
The Berlin spring invites us to be active and sporty. That’s exactly your thing? Then join us on Wednesday, May 29, with Kapitel Zwei to Alt-Treptow, Towards the Island of Youth, to the Abbey Bridge. There we will rent pedal boats, canoes or rowing boats for one hour (or longer) via “Kanuliebe” or “Rent-a-boat“, to paddle or to start a short race over the river Spree.
We will pass the romantic abbey bridge, the bridge of hearts. In blue, heart-shaped tiles, we will read the names of people who look after the well-being of children and adolescents.e.g. Rolf Zuckowski, Reinhard Lakomy, Franz Beckenbauer, Radio Teddy, Katarina Witt, the BSR or the Berlin Zoo, Stephen Hawking, etc.
Then we will pass the island of youth and wave to all Berliners, chilling at the water with a cool drink and hot company. Then we take a look at the area of the Badeschiff and the monumenal art work Molecule Man between Elsenbrücke and Oberbaumbrücke, directly in the centre of Kreuzberg, Alt-Treptow and Friedrichshain. Who doesn’t know them, the 30-meter-high male figures made of aluminum plates? Finally we can see them close up and take selfies.
Afterwards we will go back to the boat rental and sit down in the grass or in an open air bar. It is going to be an eventful day. The requirement is that you can swim in an emergency if you go overboard.
