Science and Comprehension – Deutsches Technikmuseum
Excursion with your German language school
This time Kapitel Zwei will take you to the Deutsches Technikmuseum on Wednesday, 24th October. It has been one of Berlin’s most important museums for over 35 years!
Usually we can stay here for about 2 to 3 hours without getting bored.
After your German course, we will explore the history and manufacturing process of technical developments and their most important achievements on a total of 25,000 square metres. We will learn more about the transport and production of goods, energy and communication media.
The exhibition is for technology lovers as well as for technology grouches. The majority of the explanations are interactive and easy to understand. Therefore it is easliy to understand how certain machines or computers were created and why some scientists claim that Germany is a country of technology and engineers.
Highlights
The aircraft, the “Raisin Bomber”, an important symbol of German and Berlin history and a masterpiece of technology, is already shown at the entrance. During the Cold War, such aircraft supplied the enclosed West Berlin with vital goods.
But the museum also shows the fascination of technology inside. We learn so much about aviation, shipping and railway technology. How did human traffic technology develop from its beginnings to the present? – Or are you still walking to your German language school?
New technologies and their sustainability will also be highlighted in an exciting way: The focus will be on the first computers and their energy technology. The hall must be huge, if we remember the first computer, right?! In addition, we will walk a 1.5-kilometre trail that introduces today’s LED technology. We will see what modern street lighting can look like after a time with oil lamps and Edison’s light bulb.
If you still have as much energy as a Duracell bunny after the tour through the German Museum of Technology, you can go directly to the Science Centre Spectrum in Berlin or express your interest for a second tour!
