Open-Air Exhibition “Revolution and Fall of the Wall”
Excursion with your German language school to the former Stasi headquarters Berlin
On June 20 we will visit the open-air exhibition “Revolution and Fall of the Wall” in the courtyard of the Stasi headquarters. The headquarters served until 1990 as the Ministry of State Security. It is a very authentic place in German history. Admission is free.
1300 square meters document the Peaceful Revolution of 1989/90 – from the beginnings of the protest over the fall of the Berlin Wall to Germany’s unity.
You will receive answers to the following questions:
When did it all start? What course did the revolution take? What led to the fall of the Wall and which stages shaped the way to Germany’s unity?
The focus here is with the East Germans. They gradually overcame their personal and political limits, criticizing more and more the SED regime until the communist dictatorship was finally brought down.
We come across of more than 650 fascinating photos, historical documents, nine media stations with original recordings, TV recordings and interviews with contemporary witnesses. On January 15, 1990, thousands of demonstrators stormed the previously completely sealed off premises of the Stasi headquarters.
That was the end. Civil rights activists also enforced the opening of files by the secret police, a few months later.
The exhibition is a great opportunity to learn more about Berlin other than the party-Berlin, to internalise German history and to learn for the future. 45-minute audio tours (in German, English or Italian) are available for 1 €.
