Feuerzangenbowle auf dem Nikolaikirchplatz:

Feuerzangenbowle at the Nikolaikirchplatz

Excursion to the Winter Open-Air Cinema with your German language school in Berlin

Open-air cinema in winter? Are they crazy, those Germans?

Join your German language school at the Winter Film Festival Berlin on Tuesday, December 11th at 5 p.m. at the small Christmas market at Nikolaikirchplatz. We’ll watch the film “Die Feuerzangenbowle” – of course thickly wrapped in blankets and under a lot of heaters!

“Die Feuerzangenbowle”, starring the famous German actor Heinz Rühmann, is a comedy from 1944 and is a classic in German film history: Four men meet for Christmas in Berlin, drink Feuerzangenbowle and tell each other stories from their school days. One of the men didn’t have the opportunity to go to school as a child and now attends school as an adult, disguising as a pupil – the chaos begins…

Of course the “Feuerzangenbowle” is also an alcoholic drink – a punch similar to mulled wine, which we can drink during the film (and before and after). A burning piece of sugar soaked in rum is placed on the glass and the flames drip into the punch – pretty cool!

In any case, these hours after your German course will be very cosy and you can experience a special atmosphere. The pretty Nikolaikirchplatz with its historic houses is illuminated for Christmas and the Feuerzangenbowle warms us from the inside. And if that is not enough: a film in German is always a great opportunity to learn new vocabulary!
