Street art – exhibition at „Urban Nation Museum for Urban Contemporary Art“

On tour with Kapitel Zwei – Your German language school

On Tuesday, the 28th March at 3.15 p.m., Kapitel Zwei will visit a street art – exhibition together with you! It is close to Nollendorfplatz in Schöneberg, and it is for free!

The term “street art” is almost too profane for the first-class art works, which are presented in that exhibition. You cannot stop being astonished. These artworks could also be framed in the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Since September 2017 Urban Nation shows that the building is far more than just a museum under the guiding theme “Connect. Create. Care.”

“Street-art belongs on the street, the history of it needs a home, though”, says Yasha Young, art director of Urban Nation. She has lived in New York for a long time, as a gallerist, she has curated more than 200 exhibitions, and she comes from a punk and skater background.

The building society Gewobag is funding the transformation from a house into a museum and is also looking to contact young exhibition visitors. “It is about hope and perspectives.”

Streetart Urban Nation Sprachschule Deutsch Berlin

You’ll find artworks from internationally known artists like Banksy, or Shepard Fairey (see “Hope” poster for Obama), as well as artworks from young artists and students, artworks from residents from the neighbourhood and from a retirement home. Sometimes you won’t believe that the pictures were all painted, sprayed, drawn or built without any computer tools.

All in all, is the offer of a free-exhibition, which is only possible thanks to the funds of Stiftung Berliner Leben and the Lottostiftung, far too underrated!

Experience street art in an entirely new way – indoor in a former five-storey house, in which the false-ceiling has been removed, to make space for up to 8-metre-high artworks.

Further information can be found on the museum’s flyer in the office of your German language school in Berlin.
